Today’s digital world is filled with electronics. The devices we use every day are very important. They are not only used for entertainment but they also play a role in daily life. It is possible to keep your electronic devices in good condition. These are 10 tips for storing your electronic devices safely.
1. First, you need to wipe down everything. Clean any dirt and dust from your electronics.
2. Separately store all cables from their respective devices. The wires will not be stressed when you store your device.
To store the wires, coil them around each other. Bind all the wires together using zip ties. Be sure to place this at 2 different locations. Mark each group of cable with an attractive permanent marker. You can put all of your appliance wiring in one location so that you will know where it is when you want to use it- recommended reading.
4. To protect electronics against dust, wrap them in sheets of cotton or towels. Avoid using plastic wrap to protect electronics against dust. It will stop air flow and trap moisture.
5. If you have multiple electronic items, it is a good idea to place packing peanuts inside the boxes. This will prevent them from moving and possibly causing one another damage.
6. All electronic equipment that uses batteries should be removed. Batteries will not be damaged by the acid.
7. Store removable media such as cds or dvds in their original storage device. It is a wise idea to backup non-removable media such as internal hard drives before storing.
8. A padding is recommended for electronic products that have glass surfaces, like monitors or copy machines. This will prevent the glass from cracking. Styrofoam is great at protecting electronics.
9. Sort boxes based on weight. The heavier or more fragile products should go at the bottom, while the lighter ones can be placed higher. You won’t have to worry about your electronic items being damaged because the boxes are not going to collapse.
10. Label every box. You can easily identify electronics after you have removed them from their storage.
